What do you enjoy most about teaching CityUHK MBA students?
What I particularly enjoyed about teaching our MBA students was their dynamic energy and innovative mindset. Their enthusiasm for learning and creative approach to problem-solving made every classroom interaction both rewarding and intellectually stimulating. These bright, motivated professionals consistently brought fresh perspectives that enriched our discussions and created an environment where theory and practice converged in meaningful ways.
How do you combine theoretical concepts with the latest industry practices and business trends?
As the founder of my own FinTech company, I bring firsthand industry experience directly into the classroom. Both myself and the guest speakers in our course are actively leading our own FinTech ventures, allowing us to share real-world insights that go beyond textbook theories. This practical perspective ensures our discussions remain grounded in current business realities while addressing emerging industry trends. What we offer isn't just academic knowledge - it's battle-tested expertise from the frontlines of financial innovation.
What books would you recommend CityUHK MBA students to read? Why?
I don't use textbooks in my course. However, I highly recommend John C. Hull's "Options, Futures, and Other Derivatives" as supplementary reading. Based on my experience, approximately half of our students would like to pursue careers in finance, and this authoritative text serves as an excellent roadmap for financial industry newcomers. I personally found Hull's work invaluable when first entering the field myself—it provides both fundamental knowledge and practical insights that help bridge academic concepts with real-world financial practice.
What business topics should CityUHK MBA students be the most familiar with when they graduate from our programme?
Hong Kong as an international hub and approximately half of our students' express interest in the financial industry, I strongly recommend that students deepen their financial knowledge and cultivate relevant professional mindsets before graduating from our programme. For those particularly interested in entrepreneurship, I would further suggest applying for Tech300 – a startup initiative exclusively available to City University students.
One career advice to our CityUHK MBA students.
Keep your eyes open and your mindset expansive when exploring career opportunities. With determination and willingness to try, remarkable possibilities can emerge in any field.
