As an Adjunct Professor with industry connections and real-world experience, I value the dynamic exchange of ideas with diverse, experienced MBA students. How do you combine theoretical concepts with the latest industry practices and business trends?

I combine theoretical concepts with industry practices by leveraging my professional experience, staying current with business trends, and incorporating real-world case studies into my teaching. I invite guest speakers, implement experiential learning, and encourage students to engage with contemporary challenges. At times, I adapt assignments mid-course to reflect emerging issues, asking students to address them in their project plans. This approach helps students develop the adaptability and problem-solving skills essential for navigating today’s ever-changing business landscape. My goal is to equip students to think critically, apply knowledge effectively, and thrive in dynamic settings.

What books would you recommend CityUHK MBA students to read? Why?

I recommend The Lean Startup by Eric Ries for its practical approach to innovation and adaptability. Don’t wait for the perfect time—it doesn’t exist. Act now!

Another great read is Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman, which delves into the intricacies of decision-making by uncovering biases and exploring the complexities of human judgment.

The Starfish and the Spider by Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom illustrates the transformative power of decentralised organisations, showing how adaptability, collaboration, and shared leadership can create unstoppable movements and lasting impact.

Last but not least is Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck. It reveals how embracing a growth mindset—believing in the power of effort and learning—can unlock potential, turn challenges into opportunities, and foster personal and professional success.
