On December 3, 2025, a group of CityUHK MBA students embarked on an insightful industry visit to the BYD Global Headquarters in Shenzhen, China. The visit offered a firsthand look into the dynamic world of one of the world's leading technology companies.

The day began with an immersive company tour, tracing BYD's remarkable 30-year journey since its founding in 1994. Students learned how the company has evolved from a battery manufacturer into a global powerhouse spanning four core industries: automotive, electronics, new energy, and rail transit. With presence in over 170 countries and regions worldwide, BYD's scale and ambition were evident.

The tour also showcased the successes of the company’s technological ecosystem, aimed at reducing global temperatures by 1 degree Celsius. Participants explored a variety of innovations, from advanced engines and rail systems to the well-known nail penetration test for battery safety.

Additionally, the tour provided an in-depth look at BYD's diverse portfolio, which includes its engine technologies, train systems, and five distinct automobile lines: the BYD Ocean Series, BYD Dynasty Series, Denza, Fangchengbao, and Yangwang. Each model features unique attributes, such as rapid charging capabilities, a range of 700 km in about 10 minutes, options for integrated DJI drones, impressive power for climbing mountains and towing trucks, and luxurious interiors equipped with advanced functions.

In the afternoon, Mr. Ma, the Product Development Manager from BYD, delivered an engaging presentation on the company's business strategy. Focusing on the core philosophy of "Safety, Experience, Culture" and the founder's mantra, "Safety is the Ultimate Luxury," he explored how BYD competes with established European and American brands. The discussion emphasized BYD's strategy of differentiating itself through exceptional value and advanced technology, particularly addressing key consumer concerns like the range limitations of electric vehicles.

Following Mr. Ma’s presentation, Ms. Hu, the Human Resources Manager, shared valuable insights on managing and nurturing talent within an organization that boasts over 850,000 employees worldwide. The students were captivated by the presentations and actively participated in the Q&A session, asking thoughtful and unique questions.

The highlight of the visit was the hands-on experience, where students had the thrilling opportunity to test drive and explore a variety of BYD vehicles. This included the groundbreaking BYD U9, an all-electric hypercar from the luxury Yangwang brand, renowned for its DiSus-X body control system that allows for impressive maneuvers like "dancing" and "jumping."

Students also experienced the performance and comfort of various SUVs and sedans from BYD's diverse product lines. The visit was not only highly informative but also incredibly enjoyable, leaving our MBA students with a deeper understanding of global business strategy, sustainable innovation, and the future of mobility.
