The Chief Executive Officer of The Link Management Ltd (The Link) Mr George Hongchoy has visited CityU campus and shared his thoughts and insights with our MBA students on what it takes to be successful business leaders and the bag of tricks required in managing the first real estate investment trust in Hong Kong and currently the largest in Asia in terms of market capitalization.

Mr Hongchoy has over 25 years of experience in investment banking, financial consulting and accounting in Asia and New Zealand with focus on real estate, financial services and retail sectors. He holds a Bachelor degree from the University of Canterbury and a MBA degree from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Mr Hongchoy commenced his talk by introducing the audience his career life from an auditor to investment banker, followed by CFO then later the CEO of The Link. Throughout the evening, Mr Hongchoy has shared with our students the essential skills and attributes for success in business and these include “Understand the business”, “Project management”, “Professional development”, “Corporate strategy adapting changes” and “Solid foundation”. “The ability to accept, learn and adapt to new technology is crucial to business leaders nowadays. Skills and knowledge will certainly help us in managing and enhancing the business operation in order to maximize opportunities and productivities” said Mr Hongchoy. While maintaining their Hong Kong’s portfolio consists of properties with approximately 11 million square feet 80,000 car park spaces, their Mainland expansion move has been in the pipeline. “We are planning to buy and operate shopping malls in residential suburbs of the major cities in the Pearl River Delta and the rest of Guangdong province, with Hong Kong remains as the major part of portfolio” said Mr Hongchoy.

MBA students found Mr Hongchoy’ sharing was incredibly interesting and overwhelmed by his passion in improving the business by implementing new technologies and strategies. Students have been actively involved in the Q&A session facilitated by our MBA Business Mentors, Dr Wilson Chan and Dr Fenella Chu.
