Industry Onsite Workshop: China Merchants Group

A group of 40 MBA students and staff members traveled to Shenzhen China on the 6 December 2016, visiting the China Merchants Group, a leading state owned conglomerate based in Hong Kong, under direct supervision of Stated-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.

The one day programme included a visit to the China Merchants Historical Museum, followed by the Prince Bay Marketing Exhibition Centre and Shekou Sea World District developed by the group subsidiary, China Merchants Shekou Holdings.

During the visit, Dr Duan Jinglun, Director of Industry Research Institute and Mr Randall Liang, Research Fellow of Industry Research Institute and CityU Alumnus, both from China Merchants Group presented to MBA students an overview of China Merchants Group since its establishment in 1872, the transformation throughout, achievements, future development plans and in particular, the development of Shenzhen Shekou, part of the Guangdong Pilot Free Trade Zone. Students not only had the opportunity to learn more about this well-established state owned organisation, but also, the unique features of how a special economic zone operates, as well as its ongoing and future developments.
