It was our pleasure to have Mr Jackson Kwan, who oversees the Regional Major Account Engagement & Strategic Operations of Bloomberg L.P., with us in CityU MBA Professional Forum on a topic of THERES NO SELLING. THERES ONLY BUYING.
Mr Kwan built his career selling to & constructing deals with financial institutions, market associations and government agencies in both the developed and developing markets. His work has brought him to places from North Asia to East Africa over the years. Lately, he spearheaded a new line of Bloomberg services designed to help clients better utilize Bloomberg as an e-commerce platform.
Mr Kwan shared his expertise in financial data field and the professional services that Bloomberg offered through their product, the Bloomberg Terminals. He further explained and discussed with our students about the Bloomberg Terminal proprietary product characteristics, their target customers, and also the product positioning and marketing strategies. As a financial technology pioneer, Bloomberg offered real-time financial market data, powerful analytics, unparalleled financial news and research and “real-people” 24/7 customer services, in one single integrated platform to provide customers with accurate data and convenient financial tools. Mr Kwan specially highlighted that, “there’s no selling, there’s only buying.” To communicate with clients effectively, he suggested using 80% of time in the conversation to listen to clients and the rest 20% is not for selling but asking clients questions to understand them and identify their needs. The more you understand your clients, the more likely you can offer what the clients truly need and accelerate the deals to close.
Mr Kwan has also talked about some fun facts about the industry, their company upfront culture and some career advice to our students. We enjoyed this informative seminar and the interactive exchange of ideas with Mr Kwan very much.
