The CityUHK MBA Student Orientation was held on 31 August and 1 September 2024, marking the beginning of the academic journey for the new cohort of MBA students.
The orientation was kicked off at the CityUHK campus in Kowloon Tong. Professor Chak-fu Lam (MBA Director) and Professor Vivian Zheng (MBA Associate Director) warmly welcomed and introduced the MBA team to the students. They also shared insights into the MBA Programme's objectives, resources and expectations with the students to enhance their understanding of the programme.
Following the welcome remarks, students started the two-day intensive orientation programme at the Kerry Hotel in Hong Kong. Activities included ice-breaking sessions and team-building exercises on the first day and a series of workshops on the second day. The workshops aimed at enhancing students’ skills in professional networking, personal branding, and management & leadership. These workshops also guided students in navigating the Hong Kong HR landscape and provided exposure to major industries in Hong Kong.
The first day of orientation concluded with a dinner banquet, where students had the chance to connect with industry professionals and alums. This event facilitated networking and discussions about potential career paths.
During the dinner, Professor Kalok Chan, Dean of the College of Business, delivered his welcome remarks. Dean Chan emphasised the flexibility of the CityUHK MBA Programme and encouraged new students to make the most of their MBA student experience. Following Dean Chan’s speech, Professor Chak-fu Lam extended his warm welcome to guests and new students, and presented the Admission Interview Rationale & Prize Awards to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of those students who have excelled in their admission interviews.
Another highlight of the dinner was the insightful sharing by two MBA alumni, Ms Danielle Ruan and Mr Jack Si, who enheartened the new students with their fruitful MBA learning experience, and encouraged them to embrace the journey ahead with enthusiasm and an open mind.
On the second day of the orientation, students continued participating in the career-focused workshops led by industry professionals. The two-day orientation set a strong foundation for their forthcoming MBA journey.
